Department of Cardiology

At Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University Faculty of Medicine Department of Cardiology, faculty members apply all diagnostic and treatment approaches to cardiovascular diseases using modern technological devices and methods. The Department of Cardiology provides service dynamically with its integrated structure that provides uninterrupted service, where outpatient clinic, inpatient, emergency procedures, interventional laboratory and non-invasive tests are located together.

History

Our department provides services at the Faculty of Medicine, which was established in 1995 within Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University. Both undergraduate and postgraduate education is provided within the Department of Cardiology. It is a department where clinical and laboratory studies are carried out in all fields of cardiology and diagnosis and treatment methods are applied, with a staff of 1 professor, 1 associate professor and 4 faculty members. It provides service with a capacity of 23 beds in the cardiology ward and 9 beds in the coronary intensive care unit. Both theoretical and practical training is provided to undergraduate and graduate students within our department.

Purpose of the Department of Cardiology

To encourage participation in research and studies in the field of cardiovascular health, to organize educational meetings on cardiovascular diseases, and to ensure that the medical profession related to cardiovascular health is organized and developed in the best way for the benefit of the public.

Services

Polyclinic Services:

It provides service 5 days a week with two cardiology outpatient clinics and faculty members’ outpatient clinics. Examinations and blood tests performed in our noninvasive laboratory are completed on the same day, ensuring that the procedures are completed as soon as possible. Reports of patients who require medication reports are issued on the same day.

Electrocardiography (ECG):

It enables the electrical conduction of the heart to be transferred to paper in order to examine the functioning of the heart muscle and nervous conduction system. Changes in the ECG help diagnose heart diseases.

Effort Stress (Treadmill) Test:

The stress test is a test performed by taking serial ECGs and measuring blood pressure while people walk on a treadmill at certain speeds. The exercise test allows the presence of cardiovascular disease to be investigated or the effectiveness of the treatment given to cardiovascular disease. It also helps evaluate the exercise capacity of cardiovascular patients or people who will start doing sports.

Holter Laboratory:

We have blood pressure and rhythm holters in our Holter laboratory. Our devices, which record blood pressure or rhythm for 24 hours or more, are used in the diagnosis of blood pressure diseases and rhythm disorders.

Echocardiography Laboratory:

Echocardiography method provides important information for the ultrasonographic diagnosis of heart valve diseases, cardiovascular diseases, and congenital heart diseases. Echocardiograms are performed on outpatient clinic patients on the same day without an appointment. Further evaluations with three-dimensional echocardiography are performed in our clinic.

Transesophageal echocardiography; It is an examination developed to better visualize the parts of the heart that cannot be clearly evaluated by echocardiography. It is performed after preliminary preparation, which includes the application of local anesthesia or sedative drugs. Transesophageal echocardiography is preferred for more detailed evaluation of heart valve diseases, patients with holes between the heart chambers, and patients with suspected clots in the heart chambers.

Stress echocardiography is a type of echocardiography based on the detection of contraction disorders by increasing the workload of the heart with medication or exercise. In our department, it is usually performed with medication (dobutamine).

Tilt Table Test:

The purpose of this test is to evaluate patients complaining of fainting. According to the test results, patients who need to have a pacemaker are distinguished.

Coronary Angiography and Heart Catheterization Laboratory:

Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University Faculty of Medicine Hospital angiography unit provides service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In addition to patients evaluated in the outpatient clinic and given an angiography appointment, emergency angiography procedures are also performed. In case of heart attack, which is the leading cause of death all over the world, early coronary angiography and balloon-stent procedure can be life-saving. All patients who apply to the emergency department with a heart attack are evaluated by a cardiology consultant faculty member. The patient is taken to the angiography laboratory and the responsible vessel is intervened with a balloon-stent procedure and opened quickly.

Our catheterization laboratory is a laboratory where right-left heart catheterization, cardiac orifice closure (ASD, PFO), rheumatoid valve stenosis widening (mitral balloon valvuloplasty), jugular vein occlusions (carotid stenosis), peripheral vascular disease diagnosis and balloon-stent treatment are successfully performed. is the center.

In our center, pacemakers, 3-chamber pacemaker applications (cardiac resynchronization therapy) applied to heart failure patients, and shocking defibrillator procedures placed on the heart (ICD implantation) to protect against sudden death have been successfully carried out for many years.
